2020 MSF Potential Presenters: Our programming team will go through the submittals and the 2020 Friday Field Trip Day programming will be set up based on their recommendations. The programming team will make their judgments based on a number of different factors, including: type of science/math, type of event, audience, innovative approaches happening in Maine, revealing hidden secrets, diversity of programming from past years, and logistically what we can make work.

If you have presented in the past: in order to ensure the viability of the MSF we ask that your activity BE DIFFERENT than what you have presented in the last three years; exceptions can be made if the schools attending the MSF Field Trip Day are different than when you presented. If you have any questions about this, please contact participate@mainesciencefestival.org.

Audience, additional information: Our Friday Field Trip Day is open to 7th and 8th grade students from schools across the state of Maine, and will take place on Friday, March 20th, 2020, from 10:00am-1:15pm, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. The theme of the programming is highlighting the science/research happening at companies and universities who are partners of the MSF, showing students what they can strive to be/do in Maine. The total number of students attending will be capped at approximately 550 students.

Workshops/interactive presentations for the Field Trip Day are an in-depth look at science at an particular area, for example: computer coding; an exploration of different science careers (“A Day in the Life…”) with Q&A; an exploration of fitness and nutrition with examples. Additional notes:

  • Sessions should be 40 minutes and accommodate at least 40-50 students.
  • Please note, we are also seeking sessions that can accommodate up to approximately 120 students.
  • You must be able to attend for the full time (9:00am-12:15pm), and run your session 2-3 times.

We expect to have the programming finalized by January 2020.

The 6th Maine Science Festival is March 18-22nd, 2020.
